Helping Hands for the Homeless and Hungry of Rye posted photos of the volunteers working at to unload a moving truck full of schoolbags and supplies.
Monday was Day One of Empty School Bag- the Helping Hands of Rye's annual school supply outreach effort. . On Tuesday, volunteers will gather again at Resurrection Church to fill each backpack with donated supplies.
Each bag will contain 15 items appropriate for grades K through 12 which will be distributed to needy students throughout lower Westchester County, some in homeless shelters. The backpacks will be distributed through shelters and agencies such as Southern Westchester BOCES to young people in White Plains, Port Chester, Yonkers and Mount Vernon.
