This Week in Rye Sports

Our weekly roundup of Rye sports

Wednesday's snowstorm caused a few game cancellations this week, while other teams neared the last few games of the season and began their playoff runs.

The Rye Garnets

After slipping past Byram Hills 53-45 and  losing to Port Chester on Tuesday 58-37 in their last regular season game, the Rye boys basketball team rebounded to advance in Section 1 Class A play  after winning a close game against Our Lady of Lourdes High School 48-43 Thursday. The team also beat Sleepy Hollow 54-39 Friday, eliminating their opponents from playoff contention and improving their own record to 10-10 as the Garnets' Conor Smith scored points in double figures. Next up is another away game at Tappan Zee on Wednesday.

The Garnets continued their winning streak with a 32 point victory, 57-25, against the Port Chester Rams on Thursday, but lost at Albertus Magnus 56-37 Friday, which ended their playoff run. They finish the season at 12-7. Lillian McCabe and Catharine Greer led the Garnets with 13 points in the loss.

Garnets hockey had two games scheduled this week but only had a chance to play one after their game against Horace Greeley was cancelled because of the storm. Earlier in the week, however, the Garnets beat the Fox Lane Foxes 4-1. They are now 9-3-2 with two games remaining before playoff competition.
