This Week in Rye Sports

Our weekly roundup of Rye sports.

Some Rye area sports teams had a more tumultuous week on the playing field while others were consistent in the win column. Here's what happened this week:

Rye Garnets

Rye baseball won two out of three games this week, reaching the .500 mark at 7-7. Their only defeat was a 10-6 loss at home to John Jay. The Garnets then walloped Ardsley High School 14-2 and Byram Hills 6-2.

Rye softball had a full slate of games this week resulting in one win to currently stand at 4-7. After being swept by the Indians, the Garnets were victorious over a 2-7 Byram Hills squad, 10-5. Killian Harris had three RBI's in the win, with Karly Fitzgerald scoring two more runs. 

Garnet Boys Lacrosse quickly bounced back from an 8-4 defeat to John Jay, earning bragging rights over previously unbeaten cross-town rival Rye Country Day School, beating the team 13-6. Their two-game winning streak continued over Byram Hills 11-7 to currently stand at 6-5. Michael Linehan recorded at least 10 saves in each win heading into a home game Saturday against Iona Prep.

Rye girls lacrosse won two more key games compared to last week, with an 18-4 win over Somers, making them a force to be reckoned with in Section One Girls Lacrosse. The team also won, 19-7, against the Horace Greeley Quakers Wednesday. The Garnets suffered a few losses this week. Scarsdales defeated the Garnets 12-9 and John Jay beat the team, 22-20,  in a back and forth game behind nine goals from Rye's Molly O'Brien.

Blind Brook Trojans

The Blind Brook baseball team earned its second victory of the season after suffering yet another loss to Briarcliff, 8-2, Saturday. They bounced back however to defeat Rye Neck 4-1 behind one RBI each from Lance Freundlich, Eric Handelman, and Kyle Hollander to currently stand at 2-6. 

Blind Brook softball is currently on a four game losing streak after losses to Valhalla, 16-0, Rye Neck, 11-1, Pleasantville, 4-0, and Briarcliff, 15-0, to stand at 1-11 on the season. The Trojans look to obtain win number two Monday at Port Chester.

Blind Brook girls lacrosse is now 2-10 on the season after posting another home victory over Keio Academy, 14-6, behind four goals each from Jenna Patero and Melissa Rosenbaum. The two losses came against Harrison, 17-1, and John F. Kennedy Catholic High School, 15-5. 

Rye Country Day School Wildcats

RCDS baseball improved to 10-5 this past week , with a win over Scarsdale High School, 3-2, and FAA conference rival King, 8-1, after a 0-2 road loss at Hamden Hall last Thursday. The Wildcats look to continue their two-game winning streak Friday at Masters.

RCDS softball suffered a 21-3 loss to Holy Child for a 3-5 record on the season. The Wildcats will be eager to get on the field Thursday at Master and Monday against Horace Mann as this past Monday's game against Hackley was canceled.

The Rye Country Day boys lacrosse team were victorious in one out of three games this week to currently stand at 8-2 on the season after holding a seven game winning streak. The Wildcats bounced back from a 13-6 loss to cross-town rival Rye High to beat Fieldston 12-7. Millbrook would get the best of them, however, defeating the Wildcats 11-4.

RCDS girls lacrosse are currently on a three-game losing streak. Defeats have come against Greenwich Academy, 12-4, 13-10 to Hamden Hall, and 13-7 to St. Luke's.  

Wildcats' boys tennis split two matches against key conference opponents to stand at 5-3 on the season losing to Brunswick 5-2, overall on Thursday, but redeeming themselves against St. Luke's, 4-3, Wednesday.

The Wildcats boys golf team is on a roll, obtaining three key FAA conference victories, 231-189 over Hopkins on Saturday and 9-0 against Greens Farms to stand at 8-2 on the season.
