Daily Sports Digest: Rye Thrives As Blind Brook Stumbles

Rye and Blind Brook came back from the long weekend to mixed results on Tuesday. Rye picked up big road victories in volleyball and field hockey while Blind Brook struggled at home on the pitch.

For the first even the annual Rye Harrison will take place in Harrison’s new Mcguillicuddy Stadium. The students and athletes at Rye High School have begun preparations for spirit week and we want to see your spirit. Show us what you guys are doing to prepare for the big day.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Rye @ Valhalla

Score:  Rye Won 3-2

Highlights: It took everything the Garnets had, but after 5 sets Rye was able to emerge victorious at Valhalla. Courtney Brown led the Garnets with 14 kills and 2 assists. Marisa Curlen led the team with 9 assists.

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Rye @ Bronxville

Score: Rye Won 2-0

Highlights: Bronxville picked up just their second loss of the season at home against the undefeated Rye Garnets.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Port Chester @ Blind Brook

Score:  Blind Brook Lost 3-1

Highlights: The Rams were up the entire game en route to a 3-1 victory at Blind Brook as Fabian Nino put in two goals and Winston Arroyo one of his own. Defensively Jose Gonzalez had 4 saves for Port Chester. Ben Seguljic fought valiantly in the loss as the Blind Brook goalie had 10 saves, Lucas McBride put in the loan Trojan goal off of a Matthew Christal assist.

Today’s Schedule:

In girl’s soccer, Blind Brook will host Valhalla at 4:30.

In field hockey, Rye will look to remain undefeated at Byram Hills at 4:15. The two teams faced off in the first game of the season and the Garnets walked away with a 9-0 victory.

In girl’s soccer, Rye will head to Horace Greeley to take on the Quakers at 4:30. In the previous match up the Garnets won 2-0.

In girl’s tennis, Rye will head to Croton-Harmon for a 4:15 match.
