Rye High School Ranked 9th Best in the State; Blind Brook Ranked 16th

Both have moved up in the U.S. News and World Report rankings. Find out how BBHS and RHS compare to other high schools in the nation.

Rye High School was ranked ninth best in New York State and 61st in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in its recently released rankings. RHS is the only Westchester County school that was included in the state's "Top Ten" list.

"We are proud of this recognition," said Rye City School District Superintedent Frank Alvarez. "It acknowledges our hard-working students and dedicated faculty and staff." 

Blind Brook follows closely behind, ranked as 16th in the state and 80th in the nation. Both schools were awarded a gold medal, the highest possible.

Both schools have been moved up in the rankings. Blind Brook was number 24 last year and Rye just missed the top ten, ranked as the 11th best high school in 2012. 

The U.S. News and World Report evaluated more than 21,000 public high schools in 29 states and awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards and how well they prepare students for college.

At both RHS and BBHS students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement exams. At RHS the AP participation rate is 89 percent, at BBHS, it is 80 percent. The college readiness index at BBHS is 80.4 percent and at RHS is 84, both percentages are above the New York average. 

The student body makeup at RHS and BBHS is 51 percent male and 49 percent female. At RHS the total minority enrollment is 12 percent and at BBHS it is 6 percent.

Port Chester High School is ranked 103rd within New York and 960th within the nation. The AP participation rate is 44 percent and college readiness index is 33.4. The student body is 51 percent male, 49 percent female and total minority enrollment is 81 percent. PCHS was awarded a Silver medal.
