[UPDATE] Osborn Students Donate 200 Duffel Bags to Foster Kids

An Osborn Elementary school luggage drive will benefit children in foster care.

Osborn Elementary School students in Rye raised more than $6,000 for a luggage drive benefitting The New York Foundling. The money will provide 200 new duffel bags for children in foster care.

Students in grades K-5 raised the money for The Foundling’s “Cases for Kids” campaign during Foster Care Awareness Month (May 2012). They held bake sales and did extra chores; one child donated his first communion money.

"You cannot learn kindness and generosity from a book.  The Osborn students and their parents demonstrated these qualities by their whole-hearted participation in this fundraiser. We are all very proud of the results," said Clarita Zeppie, Principal of Osborn Elementary School.

The luggage helps children in foster care feel more comfortable and move with dignity during an already difficult time.

“The students at Osborn Elementary went above and beyond our expectations. Because of their generosity, our kids will be able to move with dignity during an already difficult time. Thank you Osborn students, staff and families for your dedication to this vital campaign,” said Alan Shatz, Director of Community Relations for The New York Foundling.

The New York Foundling is one of New York City’s largest and oldest family service agencies dedicated to saving children, preserving families and building communities.
