Luncheon Speaker to Emphasize New Therapies For Breast Cancer

 Cancer Support Team will hold its 14th annual Gayle K. Lee Women’s Health Awareness Luncheon on Wednesday, October 10, at the Westchester Country Club in Rye at noon with Linda T. Vahdat, M.D. the featured speaker. The Luncheon’s goal is to heighten awareness of women’s health issues by emphasizing cancer prevention and survivorship.  Dr. Vahdat’s presentation is entitled, New Therapies for Breast Cancer in the Era of Personalized Medicine. The event is open to the public. 


Dr. Vahdat is Professor of Medicine, Director of the Breast Cancer Research Program, and Chief of the Solid Tumor Service at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is involved in the research of many new therapies to treat existing breast cancer as well as strategies to reduce the risk of metastases.  Dr. Vahdat focuses her research on the conceptualization, design, and conduct of Phase I through III clinical trials mostly in high-risk metastatic breast cancer.

 Cancer Support Team, 34 years old and licensed by the New York State Department of Health, is a unique, nonprofit home care program, whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in lower Westchester who are affected by cancer.  CST’s professional staff of nurses and social workers, as well as an extensive network of volunteers, provides medical and support services at any stage of the disease, at no cost and without regard to insurance coverage.  In 2011 the Team served 532 individuals and made 1, 363 in-person visits, primarily to patients’ home.  The Luncheon’s Honorary Co-Chair is Mary Jane Arrigoni of Greenwich. The Co-Chairs are Bonnie Gould of Scarsdale and Judy Boyle of New Rochelle. The Luncheon is supported in part by TD Bank and Ulster Savings Bank. Tickets for the Luncheon are $100, a portion of which is tax-deductible.
