City of Rye residents starting next Thursday will be able to put in for one of 55 coveted commuter parking permits, officials say.

The $760 permit for the Highland/Cedar lots will be available online starting at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 and once all 55 permits have been sold, the online program will be shut down, according to a bulletin from the City Clerk’s Office.

“To be considered a Rye resident you must currently reside in the City of Rye—not the Village of Rye Brook, Town of Rye or the part of the Town of Harrison with a 10580 ZIP code,” the City Clerk’s Office said in an email.

Here’s how to put in for a permit:

  1. go to the City website (www.ryeny.gov)
  2. under the City News section look for the large white P in the blue square and click on the link for 2014 Commuter Permit Offers
  3. click on the link for Highland Cedar Open Permit Signup Application
  4. complete the application and provide credit card information.

“It is recommended that you have the registration for your vehicle with you when applying because you will need the vehicle information in order to complete the application,” the City Clerk’s Office said. “Uou are strongly advised to read the instructions prior to submitting an application. They are currently accessible on the website. The program will provide you with an email confirmation.”
