Rye Brook Police Blotter: Pranksters Run Amok

There's nothing funny about the criminal capers pulled by Rye Brook pranksters in recent days.

Rye Brook police have been busy this past week responding to resident reports of annoying criminal pranks and petit larcenies throughout the village. Here are some of the cases:

  • On September 30, a homeowner on Elm Hill Drive reported someone had pilfered their sprinkler timer valued at $200. That same day, Rye Brook police answered a call on Bellefair Road. A No Parking sign had been pulled up from the ground and left laying in the road.
  • Patrol officers on Legendary Circle discovered an incident the next day that may be related to the Bellefair call, according to Rye Brook Police Lt. Eugene Matthews. On October 1, four mailboxes were tampered with, the boxes turned from the normal position, and a fifth was broken from its bracket causing $88 in damage.
  • On Sunday, October 2, a realtor showing a home on Avon Circle thought she was the victim of a larceny. In fact, the key box she had improperly left secured to a front door had been removed by at the request of condominium management by a maintenance worker.
  • If Mondays aren't tough enough, a woman called police Tuesday, October 4, around 12:45 p.m. She discovered her car parked on King Street had a flat rear tire. When she got the tire repaired, she was told it had been deliberately cut. TGIF, indeed.
