Rye Brook Blotter: Police Arrest Man for DWI, Then Escort Him to the Hospital

A Rye Brook man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after running his car into a utility pole.

Rye Brook Police said Chris Kenny, 22, of Maple Court, was arrested on May 8 after a resident on Jennifer Lane called police at 2:12 a.m. when she heard a car alarm and a possible crash.

The woman called police again to report that she saw a black SUV slowly pulling up and could see flashing lights from a vehicle on the road. She also said she saw a person run up Jennifer Lane toward Crawford Park.

When a police officer arrived on the scene, he saw a car accident on 10 Jennifer Lane and began searching for occupants of the vehicle. Kenny began walking towards the officer, staggering and bleeding.

When Kenny told the officer that he had crashed into a telephone pole, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed that Kenny's eyes were bloodshot and his clothes were disheveled.

The officer gave Kenny a field sobriety test, which he failed. 

Police arrested Kenny and then accompanied him to White Plains Hospital. He suffered no injuries and was released into police custody.

Kenny had a blood alcohol level of .18. He was charged with an aggravated DWI.

Boy Shoplifts on a Dare

Rye Brook Police say a juvenile was caught shoplifting from the Family Discount Center in the Rye Ridge Shopping Plaza on May 14. The boy, who was under 16, stole animal-shaped rubber bands from the store. After being caught, he told police that his friend dared him to shoplift. The boy was not charged with a crime, but the case was turned over to a youth officer, who spoke to the boy and his parents.

Arrest for Suspended License

On May 7, Rye Brook Police arrested a man for driving unlicensed. Police said 49-year old Carlos Alves from Port Chester was pulled over during a normal traffic stop by a police officer and showed the officer a North Carolina driver's license. The officer discovered that Alves' driving privileges in New York had been suspended because of failure to pay a fine from 2006. Alves was arrested and posted $100 bail. He is due back in court on May 19.
