Rye Brook Bank Teller Arrested for Grand Larceny

Teller at Key Bank in Rye Brook stole thousands of dollars from employer

Rye Brook Police arrested a teller at Key Bank Thursday for stealing thousands of dollars from his employer.

Police said Gavin Solomon took a total of $16,000 from his teller drawer and the bank's ATM machine over the course of two months.

The branch manager of the bank, which is located at 800 Westchester Avenue in Rye Brook, reported the incident to police on Thursday.

The branch manager told authorities that on January 5 at 5:15 p.m. the lead teller noticed that the bank's vault was $2,000 short. The teller told the branch manager that Solomon was given $2,000 to enter into the system.

When the manager confronted Solomon, he admitted to taking the money and told the branch manager he had taken a total of $10,000 from his teller drawer.

The manager then asked Solomon if he had also taken money from the ATM and Solomon admitted that he had taken another $6,000 from the machine.

Police said it appears the teller had been stealing money from the bank since November 2009. It's unclear why the theft went unsuspected for two months.

Police arrested Solomon on Thursday and charged him with grand larceny.
