Jovanovich Endorsed by Former Mayor Ted Dunn, Former City Council Members

A press release from the Jovanovich campaign.

Today, the Peter Jovanovich for Mayor campaign announced that it has received the endorsement of former Rye City Mayor, Hon. Ted Dunn (Republican) and former Rye City Council member Hon. Carolyn Cunningham (Democrat.) Joining in the endorsement was a bi-partisan group of 7 former City Council members that included Hon. Franklin Chu (Republican), Hon. Bonnie Downing (Republican), Hon. Matt Fahey (Republican), Hon. Duncan Hennes (Republican), Hon. Roz Larr (Republican), Hon. Gerry Seitz (Independent) and Hon. Arthur Stampleman (Democrat.) Together this group represents over 50 years of experience on the City Council.

In announcing his endorsement of Mr. Jovanovich, former Mayor Dunn was quoted “I am voting for Peter Jovanovich for Mayor this year and encouraging my fellow Republicans to do the same because I believe Peter represents the best opportunity to end the dysfunction on the City Council and give the Council a chance to move forward a positive agenda for Rye. Unfortunately the intimidation on the Council too often starts with Joe Sack and his supporters in social media. Even as a life-long Republican I find myself hard pressed to support Mr. Sack.” Mr. Dunn served as Rye City Mayor from 1994 to 1998 and had previously served on the City Council from 1992 to 1994.

Former Democratic City Council Member Carolyn Cunningham spoke of her endorsement as well “I will vote for Peter Jovanovich for Mayor. I have always found Peter to be a man of high integrity. He possesses the right experience and temperament to forge consensus and work collaboratively to bring solutions to Rye’s challenges. Also, Peter cares for Rye's natural environment. I encourage my fellow Democrats to vote for Peter.” Ms. Cunningham served on the Rye City Council from 1996 to 2004.

When notified of the group’s endorsement Peter Jovanovich said “I am particularly pleased to receive the endorsement of such an accomplished group of former City Council members. This group of public servants represents a time in Rye’s not to distant past when elected officials could hold deep felt beliefs but engage in civil discussion and work together to do the people’s business. As Mayor I plan to lead the City Council in just this manner. I am honored by their endorsement.”

Mr Jovanovich is running as an Independent for Rye City Mayor. First elected to the Rye City Council as a Republican in 2009, Mr Jovanovich currently serves as the Deputy Mayor.
