Overnight Larcenies Reported on Johnson, Florence and York in Rye

Police warn residents to lock their cars and keep valuable out of site.

Rye police warned residents to protect themselves from overnight thieves on Monday, after several larcenies were reported.

Here are the larceny reports:

This problem has been going on for a long time. It's hard to believe that people would still keep valuables in their cars. It's almost mind boggling.

To keep their car doors unlocked is also mind boggling. How many warnings do people need?

Actually I was told by the police that if a thief wants Ito get into your car they have a little tool that can silently break your window. If you have nothing of value inside your car it's not the worst thing to leave it unlocked.

But my question is why leave it unlocked? You are inviting someone to easily get in. Even if you have nothing valuable in there it's your property and you want to keep it as safe as possible. Yes I know that thieves have tools to get in if they really want to, but some people make it very easy for them. I don't think the cops encourage people to leave their doors unlocked even if you have nothing in there. Most people these days know the danger of leaving their home doors unlocked. It's the same with your car. Some people just need to use a little common sense. It's that simple.
