City Donates Bikes to Teen Charity Linking Handlebars

Some lucky children will be receiving their very own bikes in coming weeks, thanks to the teen-run charity Linking Handlebars and the City of Rye police department. The Rye Police Department will donate abandoned bicycles it has accumulated to Linking Handlebars, a charity started by four Rye High School girls last year to help underprivileged children in the community.

The founding members of the organization are Lucia Villani, Cristiana Villani, Bridget Salice and Jenna Cammisa. They have a wide range of volunteer experience in the local community having volunteered at Part of the Solution in the Bronx, the Carver Center and at Helping Hands. The group’s mission is to promote a healthier lifestyle for needy children through the distribution of bicycles,” according to the group’s flyer.

The girls are focused on helping kids to enjoy the outdoors and a healthy means of transportation. “Our mission is to provide these simple privileges to children who would not otherwise be able to enjoy them.”
