Shopping the Day After Christmas

It's the day after Christmas, which means you've probably unwrapped tons of presents. You've gotten almost everything you wanted---and some things that you didn't. 

If you're looking to return that awful sweater your great-aunt sent you or if you're looking for a great sale, then the day after Christmas is the perfect time to visit the mall or a local boutique.

For anyone returning a gift, the county's official site, westchestergov.com, has listed refund policies for several stores in Westchester. Earlier this month, New York changed its refund law to improve protection for consumers. The law requires all merchants to post their return policies. If they don't, customers are automatically allowed 30 days to return their merchandise with a receipt.

For Westchester residents returning gifts today, here are the refund policies for some popular stores:

Macy's-  Returns within 180 days (6 months). Returns without receipt issued at product's lowest actual selling price within the last 180 days. For furniture, three days and a restocking fee of 25 percent.

Neiman Marcus- No deadline

Thomasville- Store credit only. Restocking fee of 25 percent.

Best Buy-30 days, except 14 days for certain products including computers, monitors, camcorders and digital cameras. Holiday return policy for products purchased between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24:  Jan. 24 for return or exchange of 30-day products, Jan. 8 for return or exchange of 14-day products.Restocking fee of 10 – 15 percent on certain opened products

Home Depot- 90 days. Restocking fee of 15 percent on return of regular special orders

Macy's- Open Saturday at 6 a.m. and Sunday at 10.a.m. Visit macys.com to print an online savings pass. Nearest location: Galleria Mall, White Plains.

Kohl's: 60-70 percent off sleepwear and sweaters. 50-60% of select coats. Nearest Location: 431 Boston Post Road, Portchester.

Neiman Marcus- Save as much as 60% on already reduced prices. Nearest location: Maple and Paulding Avenue, White Plains.

Thomasville: New Year's sale already in effect. Nearest location: Thomasville of Westchester, 2579 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers.
