Mardi Gras at Rye Roadhouse Tonight

Local hangout gets ready for Mardi Gras celebration tonight.

It may not be Rue Bourbon, but Rye Roadhouse is just as good a spot to celebrate Mardi Gras as any and closer to boot.

Right now, Rye Roadhouse manager Kevin Campbell is rushing about getting ready for a full house of revellers. He expects a full house and the fun to begin around 6 p.m.

If you stop by tonight, you can pretend you're in the heart of Vieux Carre. Have a hurricane or an Abita beer! Enjoy a menu with selections including black-eyed peas with andouille sausage and crab, oyster po-boys and for dessert, king cake or beignets.

Mardi Gras season stretches from January 6- Epiphany or Three Kings Day- to Fat Tuesday- the night before Ash Wednesday. The exact date of Mardi Gras changes depending on the start of Ash Wednesday which is always 46 days before Easter and the beginning of Lent. Since Lent is a period of symbolic repentance and abstinence, Mardi Gras has become a last day to indulge.

Next year's celebration will be party overload in New Orleans with Super Bowl XLVII on February 3 and Mardi Gras Day on February 12.
