In its 2013 list of top-earning towns in the US, Money Magazine ranks Rye tenth, with a median family income of $221,457. Ranked first is nearby Scarsdale with a median family income of $291,542.

Rye ranks high on the list of 'towns where you live when you've made it,' according to Money Magazine's annual list of top-earning towns published on Monday.

Ranking tenth, with a population of 15,870, a median family income of $221,457 and a median home price of $1,237,500, Rye's numbers are interesting compared to the number one top-earning town this year, Scarsdale, with a population of 17,336, a median family income of $291,542 and a median home price of $1,205,000. (In 2012 Bethesda, MD held the number one top-earning town ranking with a population of  61,511, median family income of $184,606 and a median home price of $740,000.)

Rye's small town feel and 40-minute train ride to New York City were cited as pluses for commuters. The waterfront with both beaches and boating opportunities were cited as a big draw, as was the top notch-school system.
