Rye Polar Plunge Postponed

The annual event to benefit the Special Olympics will not take place Dec. 8.

The 5th Annual Rye Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics has been postponed due to Sandy according to Teresa Gilli, the Director of Development for the Special Olympics, NY. Patch will announce the new date of the chilly plunge as soon as it is released.

Here is more information on the Polar Plunge:

 A unique, wacky experience that you'll never forget! Raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York by asking your family, friends, co-workers, etc. to support your efforts. Then, take a dip or a slow crawl into the chilly waters! Every Plunger that raises $100 receives an official Plunge sweatshirt, raise more money and receive more great prizes! So get started today and enjoy the FUN! 

Vendors - only $50 / Sponsorships and General Donations graciously accepted! 100% of donations are tax deductible! PayPal also accepted!

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
