Give Back: GNC Holiday Toy Drive

The Greenburgh Nature Center is collecting toys for needy children in Westchester through December 17.

The Greenburgh Nature Center is helping Westchester families in need this holiday season. The center is holding a holiday toy drive to provide needy children in Westchester with a toy or gift for the holiday.

Looking to donate to a local cause this holiday season? The GNC is seeking folks to give new, unwrapped, children's toys or gifts. Those who want to make a donation to the local cause can drop off the toys now through December 17. The center is accepting new, unwrapped gifts of a $10-$20 value for children ages newborn to 14-years-old. Folks can leave donations at the GNC Manor House.

All the toys and gifts will be given to the young patients of Open Door Family Medical Centers, according to Vicki Sherman of the Greenburgh Nature Center.

Open Door Family Medical Centers is a multi-cultural health center that services the Westchester community, with centers in Ossining, Port Chester, Mount Kisco and Sleepy Hollow.

Open Door also runs five school-based, health centers in Port Chester.  In 2011, 14,520 children were treated at Open Door centers, according to a media release. All funding for the organization comes from local, state and federal grants as well as private foundations and individuals.

For more information go to www.greenburghnaturecenter.org or view the Open Door's Wish List on their website at www.opendoormedical.org.

The Nature Center is located at 99 Dromore Road off of Central Park Ave , in Scarsdale. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The Nature Center’s grounds are open daily dawn to dusk throughout the year. The Center’s indoor exhibits are open daily except Fridays and a few holidays, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
