Using digital art and photography, the works creatively convey important messages about walking safety.

Examples include Eli Reynolds’ showing how texting can cause an accident, the message powerfully underscored by a blurred image showing someone texting with the overline reading: “Friends can wait five seconds for a text.” The underline says, “Don’t make them wait a lifetime.”

Jack Usry’s entry shows what looks like a shadowy ghost car and an equally ghostly youth walking directly into the car’s path. The underline reads: “Don’t be remembered for this.”

The most haunting entry belongs to first place winner Grier Poole depicting two high school girls in the prime of their life texting away, oblivious to the car bearing down on them. Behind their shoulders is a crosswalk sign that says: “Do not text while crossing.” The caption on the winning poster reads: “Is that text more important than your friend’s life? Distractions are deadly, don’t text and cross.”
