Summerfest, Sidewalk Sale, Yo-Tai-Lates, Mindful Meditation, music, theater, dance and more liven up upcoming week

From community meetings to Y- Livestrong cancer survival program debut, Summerfest to Yo-Tai-Lates to Sidewalk Sales, mindful meditation to theater, music and dance, there’s lots going on locally. And don't forget the fireworks!

Tuesday

EARLY BIRD$: Rye Town Park Commission will hold special 7:30 a.m. open meeting at RT Hall, 10 Pearl St., Port Chester to discuss capital budget and consider promotional rate options for current season in wake of disappointing weekday attendance figures. Meeting is open to public and will be held in courtroom. Information: 939-3075.

LIVESTRONG AT Y: First of ongoing Rye YMCA Cancer Survivor support group meetings – involving assessments, lectures, exercise –at 1:30 p.m. at the Y

Program is staged in conjunction with Livestrong Foundation (dedicated to cancer research and named after famed biker and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong) and National YMCA.

Rye Y, one of ten top-ranked Ys in terms of membership satisfaction, has been selected to help pioneer program regionally. Ongoing classes will be held same time, same place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Information: 967-6363.

POOLING RESOURCES:  Rye Brook Board of Trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall meeting room, 938 King St., to discuss, among other things, entering into an agreement with Carver Center for use of certain facilities such as the pool by the village Recreation Dept. CARIBBEAN AT OSBORN: Tuesday evening free lawn concerts program at Osborn Retirment Community presents Caribbean Duo playing for listening and dancing pleasure. Advisory: Bring lawn chair or blanket for down time.

BAND PLAYS ON: Reddy Valentino Swing Orchestra plays for listening and dancing from 7:30 to 9 p.m. as part of free ongoing summer concerts in Rye Town Park.

Wednesday

DIAL FOR SUMMERFEST: Today is deadline to register for Port Chester-Rye Brook-Rye Town Chamber of Commerce Summerfest catered by Kelly’s Sea Level. Upcoming Friday 6 to 10 p.m. event at Rye Town Park includes everything from lobster and shrimp to burgers and BBQ fried chicken. Also hot dogs, beer, wine, coffee and desert and music in the RTP Pavilion. All that wining and dining explains why paid reservations are required. Information: 939-1900.

BLAST OFF: Rye Playland free fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. Also Friday, same time, same place.

Thursday

YO-TAI-LATES ANYONE?: Wainwright House offers gentle, hour-long introductory standing and mat-based class in the ABCs of Yoga-Tai Chi and Pilates –including light weights -- at 5 p.m. in the Carriage House aerobics studio.

‘QUIET HARBOR SANGHA:’ Community of Mindfulness Meditation Group at Wainwright House will conduct facilitated practice of Mindful Meditation for beginners as well as those experienced in meditation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Program focuses on sitting and walking meditation, breath awareness, dharma discussion and being joyful together.

Practice of mindfulness is inspired by teaching and practice of Vietnamese Zen Buddhist Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. The Community of Mindfulness New York is part of a network of national and international “sanghas” (communities) –a “fourfold community of laywomen and laymen, nuns and monks.

Meetings end with tea and social time of like-minded individuals. Suggestions include: Do not wear fragrances. Bring a sitting cushion although some chairs and cushions will be available. Wear comfortable clothing. Reminder: Program mindfully meets every second and fourth Thursday. Information: 967-6080.

Friday

ROLL UP SIDEWALK$:  Rye Sidewalk Sale starts today and runs through Sunday.

Other Friday events range from Milt Gerver Orchestra playing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. during free ‘Dance on the Boardwalk’ program at Rye Playland to staging of “Seussical Jr.” tonight and tomorrow night at 8 at Rye Country  Day School’s Dunn Performing Arts Center (939-3183).
