RCSD Professional Development Focuses on Common Core

Although schools were closed for students on Tuesday, November 5, staff members throughout the Rye City School District were actively involved in a day of professional development sessions during Superintendent’s Conference Day. Moderated by guest presenters and department coordinators, small groups worked together and focused on topics related to the Common Core.

Prior to Superintendent’s Conference Day, staff members assisted Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Betty Ann Wyks in identifying key areas in which to concentrate. Professional development consultant Peggy Golden led math workshops for teachers of grades K-5. Many other sessions, in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA), Special Education and Related Services, Art, Music, Guidance, Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Science, Technology, Math, English Language Learners (ELL), Social Studies, Library, and more were held throughout the day.

It was a productive day of staff members collaborating to enhance student learning and effective teaching, and the District plans to continue its professional development initiatives as the year continues.
