Third Mayoral Candidate Joins the Race, Nancy Silberkleit

Nancy Silberkleit, the co-CEO of Archie Comics has joined the race to become mayor, according to Jason Chirevas of the Sound Shore Review. Silberkleit said she collected more than 1,000 signatures on her independent petitions in order to be on the ballot this fall, Chirevas reports.

Silberkleit faces City Councilman Joe Sack, a Republican on the Rye United ticket, and City Councilman Peter Jovanovich, also running as an Independent. Before Jovanovich announced his candidacy on July 31, Sack was uncontested. The Rye Democratic City Committee did not nominate a candidate for mayor.

Silberkleit has lived in Rye for 22 years and started thinking about running for mayor after Hurricane Sandy last year when she listened to people’s problems while waiting for her power to come back on at Starbucks. She wants to focus on generating money for the city and “fostering an atmosphere of communication and collaboration between city council members and the council and the people,” Chirevas wrote.
