29th Annual Jarden Westchester Triathlon Details

This year marks the 29th Annual Jarden Westchester Triathlon, a weekend-long event featuring a kids triathlon, triathlon super sprint (sponsored by Equinox),

Sponsored by Rye based Jarden Corporation and hosted by the Westchester Triathlon Committee.

The 29th annual Jarden Westchester Triathlon will feature over 1,200 athletes this year competing in a .9 mile swim, 25- mile bike; and 6.2 mile run. This year’s tri is a qualifier for the prestigious 2014 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco.

The participants are all running to raise donations and awareness for a variety of non-profit organizations:

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training; MAC Angels; Challenged Athletes Foundation; Wounded Warrior Project; and The Rye YMCA, The Blazeman Foundation for ALS.

The Westchester Triathlon Committee, which runs the event, is a non-profit itself. Dozens of Westchester residents spend months putting this together and hundreds from the county and tri-state area train and compete to be part of one of this inspiring and positive competition.

The event raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities that directly help thousands of families and people suffering from some of these diseases.

Here is some scheduling and timing info for participants and cheerleaders to use as a reference. Good luck to all those who will be running, cycling and swimming next weekend!

 

Kids Triathlon, for 7 to 14 year olds

Includes varying swim, bike and run distances by age group as well as the Westchester Super Sprint Triathlon (sponsored by Equinox) for adults and teens ages 15 and up.     

Saturday, Sept 28

7 a.m. Registration, 9 a.m. start, 11 a.m. awards ceremony

9:30 a.m. start, 11 a.m. Awards ceremony

 

Jarden Westchester Triathlon

Sunday, Sept. 29

5 a.m. transition area opens, 6:30 a.m. transition area closes

6:50 a.m. - National Anthem

7 a.m. – Elite wave stars

7:05 a.m. – Amateur waves start, every wave 3 minutes apart

8:55 a.m. – First elite athlete expected to cross the finish line

9 a.m. – Expo Open, Celebration begins

12 p.m. – awards ceremony and raffles
