Most of Rye Ridge Plaza Still Closed After Electrical Fire

The Starbucks side of Rye Ridge Shopping Center remains closed today after an electrical fire Wednesday morning caused a power outage in the building. There are no reports on when those stores may reopen. The stores on the lower level of the building are also closed.

Cable is out on the other half of the center, causing those stores to require cash only. The cable outage forced Finch's pharmacy owners to think quickly yesterday as customers needed their prescriptions and they needed to connect to their provider to fill them.

"We went back to the old fashioned way and used a dial up modem," said Michelle Fiscella.

Finch's is open today but still without cable. Next door at Rye Ridge Deli almost every table was taken and the restaurant was only able to accept cash, also functioning without cable.

"We are busier today," said an employee preparing food to go at the counter. "But yesterday we had to close for a few hours."

Regular Chop't, Red Mango and Chipotle customers didn't want to miss out on their lunch yesterday and were still attempting to go into the restaurants while smoke billowed around them, Rye Ridge worked Anthony Dearmas said.

"There was smoke and people were saying, 'why can't I go in'" he said with disbelief.

The fire happened around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the electrical room in the basement of the building, merchants and plaza employees said
No one was injured.

Today, there is talk of bringing in generators but the village needs to declare that the building is safe before merchants can reopen.

Cablevision is in site working to restore Internet service to their customers there.

We will post updates on store openings as they become available.
