Rye Brook Trustees: More Talks Needed on Repairing Sidewalks

Rye Brook residents turned out to Tuesday's BOT meeting to voice concerns over the cost of installing new sidewalks and repairing old ones.

Residents gathered at Tuesday's Rye Brook Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting to share their opinions on the village's sidewalk policies. The general consensus that emerged seemed to raise opposition to putting in new sidewalks and mixed opinions surrounding removing decrepit sidewalks. After receiving a request from a resident to remove the sidewalk in front of their house due to the belief that it served no purpose, the BOT said the resident raised an important point. After beginning to discuss the matter, the board agreed that they valued the opinions of the people living in the village. They sent out letters to people in areas that pertained to the issue explaining the matter and inviting them to last night’s meeting. “We felt it was …

Trustees Push Back BelleFair Deed Resolution

Last night, the Board of Trustees decided to move the public hearing regarding the BelleFair Middle Income Development Program to September 13th.

At last night's Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees meeting, a local law pertaining to the BelleFair Middle Income Development Program was to be discussed. But after learning that most residents were at the meeting for the purpose of discussing a different issue, the board unanimously agreed to adjourn the BelleFair public hearing to September 13th. The issue regarding the BelleFair Middle Income Development Program centers on concerns of what would happen to the families of those with deeds to property in BelleFair, should something happen to the eligible purchaser. It is an issue that has been brought up several times in the past. “We want to be fair and sensitive,” said Mayor Joan Feinstein. “On the other hand, we are trying to …

Port Chester Trustee Announces Candidacy for Legislature

Former deputy mayor and current Trustee Daniel Brakewood announces he'll run for the county legislature seat soon to be vacated by Martin Rogowsky.

A Port Chester trustee has his eye on a county legislature seat. Daniel Brakewood, a Democrat, will run for the District 6 seat vacated when longtime legislator Martin Rogowsky retires later this year. The district encompasses Port Chester, Rye Brook and Harrison and includes some 55,000 constituents. Brakewood, in his fifth year as a village trustee after he was elected to the board in 2006, is a senior director at Pitney Bowes and has a resume that includes stints at General Electric and Alliance Capital. As the mayor's most visible ally on the village board, Brakewood brings a more low-key style even when clashing with the board's Republicans, and has been credited by political allies and opponents alike for his management expertise and…

Mr. Al Dente, I went to school with an Al Dente, he loved his macaroni a little bit on soft side. I thought that was kind of strange, but I digress. The benefits that were taken away from the former Trustees created a little sticky issue which was resolved. Initially we were requesting that the people affected by this new policy pay for their benefits. Most of them stopped paying the premiums so …   more ›
