LaPoint Back Again As Rockland Boulders Manager

Former Yankee looks to improve upon 40-52 finish in 2011.

The Rockland Boulders say that former New York Yankee Dave LaPoint will return as manager for the 2012 season of the Can-Am League professional baseball team.   In 2011, the Boulders first season of play, LaPoint managed the team as it went 40-52, finishing in 5th place.   “This season we will be more prepared when it comes to putting the team on the field.” LaPoint said. “We have acquired some pretty good players in the offseason and are looking to add some more before the season starts. We have a beautiful stadium with great fans. It is our duty to improve on last year by quite a margin and we will do that,” he said. NY Giants Ticker-Tape Parade Set for Tuesday

The Super Bowl champions will be feted by NYC Tuesday.

The celebratory ticker tape parade for the New York Giants—winner of Super Bowl XLVI—will kick off at Battery Place and Washington Street in New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. “Big Blue gave us a game to remember, and on Tuesday we're going to give them a parade to remember,” said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a statement today. The parade will travel north on the Canyon of Heroes to Worth Street. A ceremony will follow at City Hall, where the mayor will present the Keys to the City to the team. Daily Sports Digest: Rye Wrestlers Compete In Divisionals

The Top Spot: Wrestling dominated the Super sports weekend as teams from all over met up for the divisional tournament at Mahopac, Horace Greeley, Arlington or Harrison. Rye competed in Division 1 at Harrison.   The Garnets did not have the best showing of the season but two wrestlers did manage to make some noise. At 170 Joe Simolacaj defeated Fox Lane’s Chris Manjuck 8-2 for third place in the tournament. Rye’s Jeff Dempsey fell 12-3 to Mamaroneck’s Luka Pavicic in the third place match at 145. Daily Sports Digest: Twyman’s 24 Leads Rye over Harrison

The Top Spot: Whenever the boys from Harrison and Rye get together, you know there will be a competitive matchup. This year’s back and forth football game was a testament to that. Earlier in the year, Harrison won the first matchup 52-49. Yesterday the boys' basketball teams squared off in a thrilling home victory for Rye. The Garnets won the game 55-53 thanks to a 26 point effort from Max Twyman, senior point guard. Kamal Logue added 12 points in the win. The Garnets outscored the Huskies 28-13 in the second quarter and Harrison took too long to recover. Harrison was led by sophomore co-captain Coby Leftkowitz who had 14 points in the loss. Bowling for Dollars and Sports

Inaugural event supports Fox Lane Sports Boosters Club.

Spins Bowl at Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco was the site of a day-long fund-raiser to benefit the Fox Lane Sports Boosters Club. Several sessions were held throughout the day and into the evening to raise money for athletic field renovations at the Fox Lane Middle and High School campus, and to fund two new athletic scholarships for graduating seniors. Local families were joined by about 10 West Point Cadets during the early session, while later sessions included a live band, food buffet, contests and a laser light show.

Hudson Valley Cheerleaders Compete For Championship

Croton-Harmon High School hosted regional teams and hundreds of spectators Saturday morning.

Hundreds crammed into a raucous Croton-Harmon High School gymnasium Saturday morning for the Croton-Harmon Hudson Valley Classic Cheerleading Championship. Squads competed in varsity, junior varsity, modified and all-star groups. Local teams included Lakeland, Croton-Harmon, Yorktown, Putnam Valley, Harrison, Port Chester and Garnerville.
