The discovery of a stealth ATM skimmer at Rye's CitiBank branch is the latest in such incidents throughout the area and around the country.
Rye Police acted quickly to remove a stealth ATM skimmer found at the Citibank branch on Boston Post Road Tuesday. Lt. Joseph Verille said the device had been there for no more than two days. The department sent a NIXLE alert to warn residents about the incident. Similar events have occurred at Rye bank branches in the recent past including an incident last October 2011; in Harrison last August, in Bronxville last September and nearby Rye Brook in 2010. In fact, last November five men were accused of plotting a county wide ATM skimming operation. The New York State Police reported handing out 23 traffic tickets and performing one Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated arrest on Super Bowl Sunday. During a "roving DWI saturation detail" in Westchester County, Julian Pena of Yonkers was stopped for speeding and subsequently arrested on the Sprain Brook Parkway. Police report the 28-year-old was processed at NYSP's Hawthorne department, where a breath test revealed his blood alcohol content (BAC) measured in at .20 percent. More than 400 firefighters from the region gathered at the Tarrytown Marriott Hotel on Saturday for the 11th Annual Lt. Andy Fredericks Memorial Seminar and Exhibit. Included in the crowd was 19-year-old Suffern firefighter Andrew Fredericks, who was 9 years old when his father was killed. "I spent a day at another FDNY house when I was 14. I was with Lt. Brian Curid who showed me around and that's what made me want to become a firefighter," Fredericks said. The seminar included two presentations by FDNY officers meant to educate those in the crowd on firefighting tactics and safety. Homeless Ossining Man Sues Eminem Stephen Lee Pieck, a homeless Ossining man, is suing hip-hop artist Eminem for $9 million, reports AllHipHop.com. Pieck claims he was in White Plain's Legal Seafood restaurant with pop star Christina Aguilera and her husband Sep. 9, 2010 when Aguilera put him on the phone with Eminem. Rye seniors and disabled can use Guardian Calling system to get automated check-ins from Rye Police.
Worrying whether someone will be there in case of emergency can be very stressful for the homebound and other vulnerable members of the community. Having a way to maintain dignity and safety can make all the difference for seniors and others who wish to live independently, yet still have a safety net. Rye Police Department announced Tuesday that senior, disabled and homebound residents can sign up for Guardian Calling- part of the city's Reverse 911 system. Subscribers will receive a daily phone call at a time they select from the computer system. The Queens woman's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
The Queens woman charged in the wrong-way fatal crash in July on the Thruway pled guilty Tuesday to all counts of a nine-count indictment. Tanisha Gomez, 26, of Ozone Park, struck another vehicle head on as she drove northbound in the southbound lanes of the New England Thruway in New Rochelle. She pled guilty to the following: The accident occurred at approximately 4:31 a.m. July 24. Gomez had been driving her car in the wrong direction for at least 6.4 miles in New York City and Westchester County. Tests showed her blood alcohol content was .19, more than twice the legal limit of .08. A White Plains man and Somers woman died in separate crashes Jan. 28 in North Castle.
The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims of two separate crashes in North Castle on Jan. 28, according to LoHud.com. Kimberly Figa, 23, of 39 Deans Bridge Rd. in Somers, died at Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco after driving her 2011 Mercedes Benz off Hickory Pass near Cedar Hill Road at approximately 9:15 a.m. An earlier police report identified the woman as 24. About an hour later, Elbert Jourdy, 61, of 468 No. Broadway in White Plains, was driving his Mercury Marquis when he and a Ford pickup driven by a Katonah man collided near the entrance of the Westchester County Airport on Route 120. Two fatal car crashes occurred within an hour of one another in North Castle on Saturday morning. At approximately 9:18 a.m. on Jan. 28, a 24-year-old Somers woman fatally crashed a 2011 Mercedes Benz near 25 Hickory Pass in the Banksville part of North Castle, according to a police report. The Armonk and Banksville Fire Departments, and Westchester EMS were also on scene. Brothers Allegedly Steal Storm Drain Grates and Scrap Metal Three Harrison brothers face misdemeanor charges for allegedly stealing storm drain grates and scrap metal over the last two months. Area scrap metal yards value the grates at approximately $50. Four grates were stolen before police were given a lead by the Journal News facilities manager, who reported that two men stole scrap metal from a dumpster on his property. Cat House The SPCA of Westchester rescued 16 neglected cats from a private Yorktown residence on an anonymous tip. The homeowners were reported to be in the hospital and the cats were allegedly left without care. The home was deemed unfit for occupation by animals or people.
