Sharing Shelf Helping Kids In Need Get Ready For Back To School

The Sharing Shelf is seeking clothing donations for children in Westchester.

Start cleaning out the closets, folks!

, part of Family Services of Westchester, is seeking clothing donations for children in the Westchester area. The nonprofit is in need of fall and winter clothing to provide children with back-to-school outfits.

"Our goal is to provide each child with a week's works of clothing and outfits," Deborah Blatt, coordinator of The Sharing Shelf, said. "Each month we create and package more than 1,000 outfits."

Blatt said the nonprofit distributes clothing to more than 25 schools, hospitals and programs in Westchester County.

"We serve nearly 150 children each month and approximately 1,500 - 1,800 annually," Blatt said. "Over a two-day period last week, we received orders for more than 40 children needing back to school clothing."

The Back to School Clothing Drive is collecting fall and winter clothing for children and teens.

"We particularly need sizes 4T through youth extra large," Blatt said.

There is also need for fall jackets and winter coats, and new socks and underwear, Blatt said.

Folks can donate new or gently used clothing, free of stains and tears, to the Sharing Shelf warehouse in Port Chester, Millers Toy Store in Mamaroneck or Healthy Fit Gym in Mamaroneck. Monetary donations can be made online, and marked for The Sharing Shelf, at www.fsw.org
