Saturday Benefit with Today's Whiz Kid

Local teen Iqra Chaudry is raising money this Saturday with a carnival event in Gagliardo Park. Team Breathe will offer jewelry, treats, face painting and other goodies to raise money for the cause of cystic fibrosis.

This week's Whiz Kid is Iqra Chaudry, a sophomore at Greenwich Academy.

She reached out to Patch for help with her fund-raising efforts at a Carnival this Saturday in Gagliardo Park before this Sunday's Great Strides CF Walk at Rye Playland.

"I am raising money for cystic fibrosis by making and selling CF bracelets online. I have my own team– Team Breathe, that will be walking with me at the annual Great Strides CF Walk and we are trying to reach our goal of fundraising," said Chaudry.

Not content to just walk, Chaudry and her teammates are holding a carnival event this Saturday at Gagliardo Park with a variety of activities including food, face painting, games, and plant sale.

Iqra's efforts started with bracelets.

"I had found out about the disease a while ago and I wanted to do anything within my reach that would allow me to help. I decided that making bracelets would be a great way to raise funds to go towards research, but it would also connect people in the CF Community and spread awareness about CF."

"My jewelry is made of colors that represent the walk and the disease: blue and yellow for the Great Strides walking event and purple for the actual disease. I have my own facebook page, www.facebook.com/breathe4cf, where I sell my bracelets and connect to people all over the world in the CF Community. It is an amazing experience, every person I speak to inspires me with their perserverance and hope, and I learn something knew from every life story that is shared with me," said Chaudry.

"I am trying my best to raise as much as possible for the CF Foundation and I will be participating in the annual Great Strides walking event with my own team, Team Breathe, next Sunday, May 22nd. A day before, on Saturday May 21st I am hosting a family day/ carnival themed type event. I am hoping the event will not only bring in funds for CF but also spread awareness about the disease."
