[PHOTOS] Rye Town Hilton Hosts Boys & Girls Club Gala; Danny Glover Presents

Danny Glover stepped in to fill Denzel Washington's shoes at the 100th anniversary Mt. Vernon Boys and Girls Club Gala at the Rye Town Hilton Saturday.

More than $350,000 was raised Saturday at the Rye Town Hilton for the 100th anniversary of Mount Vernon Girls & Boys Club.

Actor and humanitarian Danny Glover pitched in to present some of the evening's honorees after famed actor and Westchester native Denzel Washington could not attend.

Recipients included baseball great and sports announcer Ken Singleton, NY State Senator Malcolm Smith and late Brooklyn Dodger great Ralph Branca. 

Update: Denzel Washington explained illness prevented him from attending the gala and expressed his regrets in a statement released Sunday.

A. Who the heck is "Sam Gentile"? Is "he" qualified to make the kind of posts…Read More he's been making? Does he have an undisclosed financial interest in what he's posting? This sure looks like an [unidentified as such] sales promotion for Staples. B. On what basis does "he" assert that Rye Teachers are paying out of their own pockets for school expenses? I'm sure some are, but is it reasonable to base such a broadbrush / dramatic statement based on a nation-wide survey the source of which isn't even specified in the post? Was the survey perhaps assembled by Staples or some other business?
