[PHOTO] A Beautiful Day for Giving, Grants from Rye Presbyterian Church

The Women's Association of Rye Presbyterian Church distributed grants to local agencies.

This year's arbor luncheon, like last, was a gorgeous one for the recipients of grants awarded by the Rye Presbyterian Church Women's Club. Not too hot or too cool, but just right.

Representatives from 25 Westchester county organizations gathered to receive more than $50,000 in grants raised by the and the .

Every year the Women's Association raises funds for distribution to local charities serving women and children as well as an award to an international organization.

This year’s international gift was to Women of Vision and will support an organization in Phonm Penh, Cambodia that serves child victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Other grant recipients include:

  • Bridge Fund of Westchester: Provides interest-free loans and grants to prevent families from becoming homeless.
  • Heart Song: Provides music and art therapy programs for children with special needs.
  • Our Lady of the Rosary Church/ Don Bosco Center: Provides social outreach services, grant will assist with babysitting costs for women taking ESL/ELL classes.
  • Friends of Karen: Supports families with a child who has been diagnosed with cancer.

The church's thrift store is open Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the 5-room space offers toys, jewelry, furniture and household items donated by community members for resale at frugal prices.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
