Outage Knocks Out Nature Center Fest

The Fall Festival at Rye Nature Center this Sunday is cancelled.

"We just got our phone back about 20 minutes ago and the power a few hours before that," said executive director Christine Siller. Last weekend's snowstorm left the visitor center in the dark and out of touch for the past week.

Without phone and electricity, there was no way the staff could finalize plans for the annual Fall Festival this Sunday so the event has been cancelled.

Even though the plug was pulled on the Fall Festival, Siller says visitors can still come and enjoy the grounds this weekend which promises a much more pleasant weather forecast than last.

And in case you wondered, Siller says donations are always welcome.

On November 19, the Nature Center is partnering with Rye Historical Society for an educational program about the culture of Native American and settlers during the colonial era. The Owl Hike in December will be another great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors at the Nature Center.
