Titans Shutout for Third Straight Time

Shots didn't bounce in the Titans' favor

The Rye Town Harrison Titans suffered their third straight shutout in the past three games Monday, losing 4-0 to the John Jay Cross River Indians at Playland Ice Casino.

The loss to John Jay is the second in two weeks for the Titans. They also lost to the team last week 4-0. On Saturday, the Titans lost to the Mamaroneck Tigers 8-0.

"John Jay's good," said Rye Town Harrison Co-Head Coach Steve Forzaglia. "They beat us to every loose puck."

Though both teams had tough defense, many shots on goal would not slide through the crease for the Titans Monday. Both teams had 31 shots on goal but a few went in John Jay's favor.

Though his team was victorious, John Jay Head Coach Alex Smith said his team needs to work on playing a more complete game.

"We're having a hard time putting periods together," he said.

Smith said that the game was very choppy because the Indians had too many penalties throughout the match-up.

The Titans were down 1-0 on a goal from the Indians' leading defenseman Dan Wertz on a straight shot from the blue line with 2:14 to go before the first intermission.

The Indians' leading scorer Scott Turecamo then scored from the right side of the net at 12:59, putting the Indians up 2-0 despite efforts by Titan Connor Strozza and the rest of the team to prevent more goals.

Turecamo would strike again at 10:24 for his second straight goal of the game and a 3-0 Indian lead.

The Indians would score again in the third period at 9:58 to play.

As the game ended, the Titans tried to put points on the board one last time by slapping three shots, hoping they would land somewhere between the pipes.

But none of the shots landed in the net and the Titans lost 4-0.

Rye Town Harrison next plays Friday against the Byram Hills High School Bobcats.

Game time is set for 7:10 at the Brewster Ice Rink.
