Titans Shut Out Quakers

The Titans Connor Strozza scores four straight goals against the Quakers.

After a first period where both teams struggled to break even, the Rye Town Harrison Titans scored four straight goals on their way to a shut out game against the Horace Greeley High School Quakers.

The Titans beat the Quakers 7-0 at Playland Ice Casino Monday.

"We are a different team than we were last year," said Titan Co-Head Coach Rob Striar whose team had a rebuilding year last season. "We are starting to figure out how to play," he said.

Quaker Head Coach Zachary Dargaty  thought his team finished strong despite the result of the game.

"We had a good effort," he said noting that his team is still learning the game. "The outcome is not indicative of the score."

The Titan's three to four goal spurt in the middle of the second period proved to be the difference in the game for the Quakers.

Titan Captain Connor Strozza ended the scoring drought with 12:17 to play before the second intermission, gliding the puck up through the center line for the score with no Quaker defenders in front of him.

Strozza struck again with 9:42 to go in the period for the 2-0 score. The Titans' streak didn't stop there, as Captain Matt Jacobson's goal on an assist from Eric Fuerst increased the lead to 3-0.

With under four minutes left in the period, Strozza capped the score at 4-0 before the final period.

Quaker Coach Dargaty called a timeout after the fourth goal to help calm his team.

But Strozza continued the momentum for a 5-0 score with 9:42 left in the game. Titan Matt Baer then tallied another goal five minutes later. With less than 15 seconds left, Titan forward Dean Brancucci topped it off, for the final score of 7-0.

The Titans had 42 shots on goal. The merged team is made up of players from Rye Brook, Rye Neck, and Harrison.
