This Week in Rye Sports

Here's a list of scores for this week's competition, as well as previews for upcoming games next week.

It is the final stretch for teams around the Rye area, as the season nears its end. Victories could help some teams, while other  just need to remain consistent before sectional play begins.

Rye Garnets

Football

Rye Garnets football improved to 4-1 this week after winning on the road at Eastchester 14-6 on Saturday. With the regular season over, the Garnets await their first opponent in sectional play, which begins in two weeks.

Rye boys soccer is looking to keep its winning streak alive this week after tying cross-town rival Harrison at home Saturday followed by two 2-0 shutouts to Byram Hills and Horace Greeley. The Garnets then had a 6-0 shutout win against Fox Lane Thursday behind two goals each from Stefan Woort-Menker and Brandon Robinson. With the Garnets above .500 at 5-4-1, the team has a chance to improve their record when they compete against Byram Hills Monday, the first of four games remaining in the regular season before sectional play starts.

Girls Soccer

No. 1 ranked Rye girls soccer have yet to lose this season after a 1-0 victory over North Rockland thanks to Vania Ludman's lone goal Saturday. The team then had a 2-1 victory over league foe Horace Greeley Wednesday behind one goal each from Lia Bellizzi and Alexa DiConstanza. The Garnets look to finish the season just as strong with two away matchups against Byram Hills Thursday and Clarkstown South High School Friday. 

Field Hockey

The Rye field hockey team had two more wins this week, improving their overall record to 10-0. Victories included a 4-0 shutout over Bronxville Friday followed by a 2-0 victory over cross-town rival Harrison Wednesday. With rivalry week over, the Garnets look to finish the season on a positive note and win their league beginning Monday when they host Byram Hills at 4:30 p.m.

Volleyball

Rye volleyball has continued to struggle since defeating Mamaroneck on Oct. 1 for their its win of the season to currently stand at 1-12.  After being swept 3-0 by Byram Hills on Friday and Wednesday, the Garnets had a slow start against Harrison Thursday, losing 3-0 behind five kills, one assist, and four digs from Teresa Magana. The Garnets should be able to finish the season with at least one more victory against either Irvington, Tappan Zee or Horace Greeley.

Rye Country Day School

Football

Rye Country Day football soundly defeated Hackley 25-7 Sunday for their third straight victory and a 3-0 record behind 14 receptions for 110 yards from Sam Stern along with 11 receptions for 70 yards from Andrew Miller. Both also had one touchdown each for the Wildcats, who look to extend their streak to four games when they host Fairchester Athletic Association rival Hamden Hall Saturday.  

Boys Soccer

Wildcat boys soccer improved this week, shutting out Masters Friday until the team lost to South Kent School Wednesday for a current record of 6-2 heading into Monday's road game at Horace Mann.  

Girls Soccer

Fairchester Athletic Association league rival St. Luke's beat Rye Country Day girls soccer 5-4 Tuesday behind three goals from Steph Sabatini along with one goal and one assist from Jenna Frank. The team was victorious over Millbrook Friday though improving to 3-5-1 on the season behind one goal each from Eleanor Fanto and Briana Morris heading into an away game at Riverdale Tuesday.

Field Hockey

Rye Country Day field hockey won two out of its three games this week to currently stand at 6-2 heading into a critical home game against St. Luke's Tuesday. After a narrow 1-0 victory over Masters Friday, the Wildcats were shut out 5-0 by Greenwich Academy Tuesday. The team then rebounded to shut out Masters 6-0 Thursday, receiving one goal each from Christine Cunningham, Jess Hanway, Allie Farber, Amanda Shulman, Paige Rattner, and Taylor Katzovitz. 

Blind Brook Trojans

Boys Soccer

Trojans soccer won two games in a row this week, first beating Rye Neck 2-1 behind a Alex Taitz goal and breaking a 1-1 second half tie Tuesday, followed by a 2-0 shutout over Alexander Hamilton High School Thursday behind one goal each from Robert Winston and Jacob Visoky to currently stand at 4-4-3. The Trojans next face Valhalla on Monday before concluding the 2010 regular season at Keio Friday before sectional play in two weeks.

Girls Soccer

Sophie Lowenstein led the Blind Brook Trojans soccer squad to a 6-0 shutout over Gorton High School Wednesday with three goals. The Trojans had previously lost 7-0 to Edgemont the day before following a 6-0 shutout to Keio Saturday, for a current 7-4-1 record heading into a game against Valhalla Tuesday.

Volleyball

Trojans volleyball lost three times this week, adding to its six-game losing streak after the Keio Unicorns beat them 3-1. The Trojans also lost to the Port Chester Rams behind 12 digs from Hayley Groglio. Following another 3-0 loss to Rye Neck, the Trojans hope to win Monday at Valhalla.
