The high school sports season is in full swing for teams around the Rye area. Some are on winning streaks while others are still figuring out lineups and positions on the field or on the court.
Rye Garnets

Garnets football has started the season on a two-game winning streak to currently stand at 2-0. The Garnets dominated Sleepy Hollow 27-6 Saturday. The Garnets then shut out Saunders Trades and Technical School 30-0 Thursday in a game stopped after halftime due to the weather. With two home games beginning next Friday with Nyack and the following one against Spring Valley, a 4-0 record could be in the Garnets' future.

Garnets field hockey currently stands at 1-0 after shutting out Briarcliff 6-0 in non-league action Thursday. Valhalla comes to town Tuesday in another non-league contest before the team hosts cross-town rival Harrison Thursday, marking the start of league play.
Boys Soccer
Rye Garnets boys soccer also has a 1-0 record at the start of the season after edging Keio Academy 1-0 Saturday in a non-league game. The Garnets hope to earn another victory when they host Ossining on Wednesday before league play begins against cross-town rival Harrison Saturday.
Girls Soccer
Rye Garnet girls soccer beat Ossining 7-1 Wednesday behind three goals and two assists from Lia Bellizzi. The squad has four days to prepare for an away game at Fox Lane Thursday.
Girls Volleyball
There is a lot of promise for the young Rye girls varsity volleyball team, who showed improvement in a 3-0 season home opening loss Tuesday against Carmel. After another 3-0 match defeat at home against Ossining, the girls have a chance to redeem themselves Tuesday at Port Chester.
Cross Country
The Rye boys cross country team came in second at a meet at Briarcliff Tuesday, with 38 points behind first place Rye Neck's 34. The Garnets were ahead of third place Briarcliff at 74, fourth place Blind Brook at 90, and fifth place Harrison at 129.
The Garnets girls team finished first place in their races with a score of 16, which was ahead of second place Briarcliff's 45.
Rye Country Day Wildcats
Football
Wildcats football has one more week to prepare for their season opener Saturday when they host Long Island Lutheran.
Field Hockey
Rye Country Day field hockey is another team that is off to a great start as well after blanking rival Holy Cross 5-0 Thursday to currently stand at 1-0. The Wildcats need to keep the early season momentum alive when they face Hopkins on the road Monday.
Boys Soccer
RCDS boys soccer stands at 1-0 on the season after shutting out FAA rival King 2-0 Thursday. The Wildcats will need to have the same mentality against Greens Farms next Saturday.
Girls Soccer
RCDS girls soccer has started the 2010 campaign with a 1-1 tie at home against Hamden Hall behind one goal from Liz Judd and 12 saves from Devon Kraus. The Wildcats look for their first win on the road at Hopkins Monday.
Blind Brook Trojans
Football
The Blind Brook Trojans football team suffered a 26-6 home opening loss to Dover to currently stand at 0-1. The Trojans still have ample opportunity to have a successful season starting with another home game vs. Riverside Sunday.
Girls Volleyball
Trojan volleyball suffered a 3-0 match defeat at Sleepy Hollow Thursday. It will be important for the team to stay focused during their current four-game stretch on the road that takes them to Somers Tuesday.
Boys Soccer
Blind Brook boys soccer beat Horace Greeley 3-2 Tuesday. The Trojans next tough test will be against cross-town rival Harrison on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Girls Soccer
Coach Martino's squad is off to a good start after an 8-1 season opening home victory Wednesday against Peekskill. Emily Russel led the way with two goals along with one from Samantha Handler. The Trojans host Irvington Monday in another early season matchup.
Cross Country
The Blind Brook cross-country team placed third in a meet at Briarcliff High School Tuesday. The Trojans overall boys team score of 90 came ahead of Harrison's 129 and fourth to Briarcliff's 74, Rye's second place at 38, and Rye Neck's first place at 34. The Trojans should look to move closer to the number one spot in their next meet away at Valhalla on September 28.
