Our weekly roundup of Rye Sports

Some Rye area sports teams had a streak of luck this past week, either reaching or surpassing the .500 mark. Other teams still struggled, but showed some improvement.

The RCDS Wildcats Girls Varsity basketball team won two out of three games, as Stephanie Binder and Carolyn Binder scored points in double figures. The Wildcats routed the Dwight School Tigers last Thursday 51-18 then beat Hopkins on Saturday, 43-32. On Tuesday, the Wildcats lost to an 11-1 King team, 42-35. The Wildcats currently stand at 7-4 with seven more games before FAA tournament play.

The Wildcats boys basketball team is currently on a three-game losing streak but appear closer to returning to their winning ways after a narrow five point loss to Millbrook, 51-46. The Wildcats are currently 9-4 with seven games left in the regular season.

Wildcat wrestling bounced back strong from a 52-18 loss to Hackley last Wednesday. The team placed fifth out of 20 teams at the Edgemont Tournament and then defeated Collegiate 39-21 to currently stand at 7-3. The squad has three more meets before state tournaments begin.

The Rye Garnets boys varsity basketball team is currently at the .500 mark, beating a 9-5 Somers team 53-37 on their home floor Friday without starting center Brendan Nagle. Nagle sat out the second half of the Garnets' last contest against Horace Greeley. The team currently stands at 7-7 and was dormant the rest of the week as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season in good condition record-wise. Three players scored points in double figures against Somers; Brian Pickup had 18, Chris Twyman 15, and Tim Lonergan 10.

The Garnets girls team was also victorious. Marisa Gardineer led the team with 14 points in a blowout victory 51-29 victory against Somers. The win gives the team three wins in the past four games and improves their record to 9-4 on the season.

Both Blind Brook High School basketball squads were victorious over Alexander Hamilton on Friday in their only competition before a break. The Lady Trojans recovered from a 47-28 loss to Briarcliff to beat Alexander Hamilton 48-30 and return to within one game of the .500 mark. The team currently stands at 7-8. Three players tallied double figure points as Lea Saliba had 14, Samara Meyers 13, and Jennifer Jond scored 11. Ali Saliba played in her second game back from an injury to tally four points for the Lady Trojans.

The Blind Brook boys teams beat Alexander Hamilton 61-43 behind 21 points from Lance Freundlich. Mike Tomasula had 19. The win put the Trojans over the .500 mark and in good position going into their final set of games.

Garnet Varsity Hockey has gone 2-0 in the past two games shutting out Rye Neck High School 8-0 and beating Whitesboro 8-2.

The Rye Town Harrison Titans hockey team has struggled lately, suffering their fourth loss in a row. The team lost to the Mamaroneck Tigers 8-0, and the John Jay Cross River Indians 4-0 in a game where both teams each had 31 shots on goal. The Titans previously lost to White Plains 6-3 and Pelham High School 2-1.
