This Week in Rye Sports

Our weekly roundup of Rye sports.

Teams from around the Rye area have completed their seasons and begun their championship runs, while others still have a few more games or are waiting to see who'll they compete against in the playoffs.

Rye Garnets

Rye baseball has remained above .500 to currently stand at 10-9. Ryan Breslin has made big contributions as of late. After the Garnets lost to Harrison 5-1, but bounced back to defeat Lakeland 4-1, Breslin's Grand Slam helped the Garnets split the series with Somers in a 9-2 victory. Rye had previosuly suffered an 11-3 loss to the Tuskers. The regular season wraps up Friday at Pelham High School before post-season games are announced.

Rye softball is currently on a four-game losing streak. A Harrison Huskies sweep came before the Somers Tuskers also swept the Garnets.  The team currently stands at 6-11 heading into their last regular season Friday at Ardsley.

Rye boys lacrosse ended the regular season with an 8-6 victory over the Horace Greeley Quakers behind two goals each from Christian Bonaventura and Cole McCormack Wednesday to finish at 9-7.

The Rye girls lacrosse team has gone a two-game winning streak for a 7-7-1 record. The Garnets took advantage of another opportunity against Pleasantville in a 19-12 victory behind 10 goals from Molly O'Brien. Emma Tucci also had six goals. Tucci continued her leadership in sectional play helping to shutout North Salem 16-0 with four goals. Emma Brinkman and Molly O'Brien each had three. The Garnets next play Nanuet Thursday.

Blind Brook Trojans

Blind Brook baseball's season took a downturn this week, when the team had two straight losses to Westlake, 5-4, and 7-2 to Keio Academy behind one RBI each from Eric Handelman and Tom Triglia. The Trojans can still have a .500 season by winning their last regular season game against Bronxville on Monday.

Blind Brook softball will play their last regular season game at home on Monday against Bronxville, the third of the Trojans' last three game of the 2010 regular season, including games against Keio Academy and Valhalla. Rye Country Day Wildcats

Rye Country Day baseball extended their winning streak to seven games with a 15-3 rout of St. Luke's, but the team came up short against Hopkins, 5-1, in the Fairchester Athletic Association playoffs. The Wildcats will have a chance at redemption when they host Collegiate Saturday.

RCDS softball also ended the season with a win before losing in the FAA playoffs. The team had an 11-0 shutout over Trinity Friday, but a 13-4 loss to King Monday. The Wildcats' chance at redemption will come today against rival Holy Child in the New York State Association of Independent Schools state tournament Quarterfinals. RCDS boys lacrosse has extended their two-game winning streak to four games with most recent wins coming over Long Island Lutheran High School, 18-3, and home victories against South Kent School, 13-2, and an exciting 7-6 win over Hackley to currently stand at 12-2 on the season. An NYSAIS state tournament game today against Holy Child is up next for the Wildcats. 

RCDS girls lacrosse fell short of a victory against Riverdale Monday to finish the season at 4-10. The Wildcats play away at Fieldston in a NYSAIS tournament Quarterfinal matchup today.

The Wildcat boys golf team had a week to prepare for the New York State Association of Independent Schools (Athletic Association) state tournament. The team will compete Monday at the Putnam National Golf Club in Mahopec.

RCDS girls golfer Larke Nimocks shot a five-over-40 to win the Fairchester Athletic Association girls golf tournament for the Wildcats at Round Hill Country Club.
