This Week in Rye Sports

Our weekly roundup of Rye sports.

Teams around the Rye area neared the end of their seasons this past week while others have already finished and await word on post season action.

Rye Garnets

Rye baseball is currently on a four-game winning streak to currently stand at 8-7. Most recent victories came over Byram Hills, 15-2, and rival Harrison 2-1. Ryan Breslin scored the tying and winning run against the Huskies.

After sweeping Byram Hills in the second game of the series, 10-4, Garnets' softball lost to the Huskies, 14-0, Monday to currently stand at 6-8 behind seven innings pitched from Erica Becker.

Rye boys lacrosse had their four-game winning streak snapped to the hands of a tough Somers team,  7-5, Monday to currently stand at 8-7 on the season. Michael Linehan had thirteen saves with Garrett Chapman leading the Garnets with two goals on the day. Most recent victories for the Garnets include a 13-9 defeat over Suffern and a 6-4 win over Iona Prep.

Rye girls lacrosse is currently on a two-game losing streak after losses to Pleasantville, 14-12, and Fox Lane, 17-10, behind four goals from Emma Tucci to currently stand at 5-7. The Garnets will have another chance to beat Pleasantville Thursday in their final home game.

Rye boys tennis improved their record to 5-5 after a 6-1 win over rival Harrison to close out the season before the playoffs begin.

Blind Brook Trojans

Blind Brook baseball won three more games this week to currently stand at 6-6 on the season thanks to a 7-3 victory over Tuckahoe, a narrow 5-4 win against Rye Neck and a 6-2 win at Westlake behind three RBI's from Kyle Hollander and two from Jonathan DiCanio.

Blind Brook softball continues to be on the losing end after losses to Tuckahoe, 10-0, Port Chester, 13-8, and Westlake, 18-0, to currently stand at 1-14 on the year.

Trojan girls lacrosse is currently on a six-game losing streak with most recent losses coming against bigger schools such as Byram Hills, 20-2, a 13-0 blanking to Briarcliff, and another defeat 15-3 over the bobcats to currently stand at 2-13. Jenna Poplausky, Nora Fisher, and Jenna Paterno each scored one goal for the Trojans in the loss.

Rye Country Day Wildcats

Rye Country Day baseball has won their last four games for a six-game winning streak. Wins include a 13-3 victory over Masters, 8-0 against Trinity, 8-7 over Rye Neck, and 4-1 against Brunswick. The Wildcats look to close out the regular season with a bang Thursday at St. Luke's before Fairchester Athletic Association league play begins Monday.

RCDS softball is currently 5-6 after winning one, 12-8 at Masters, but suffering an 18-2 loss at home to Horace Mann. The Wildcats look to reach the .500 mark when they host Trinity Friday, before the first round of Fairchester Athletic Association League post-season action against King on Monday.

RCDS boys lacrosse have bounced back from an 11-4 loss to Millbrook to beat St. Luke's 14-6, and Masters 15-1 for a two game winning streak and a 10-2 record on the season.

RCDS girls lacrosse won two out of three games this week which included a 15-10 loss to Hackley last Thursday, an 18-6 defeat to Millbrook Saturday, and a 12-11 victory over Fieldston Monday, bringing the Wildcats' record to 4-9. They host Riverdale in their season finale before the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) tournament begins May 23.

Wildcat boys tennis lost to Byram Hills 1-6 before a season ending 4-3 victory on the road against King for a final record of 7-4.

RCDS boys golf finished out the regular season on a positive note with a key conference victory over King and playing Fieldston to a 203-239 match score for a final regular season record of 10-2. The Wildcats begin New York State of Independent Schools Athletic Association (NYSAISAA) tournament play on May 25.

RCDS girls golf completes the 2010 season on a two-game winning streak after beating Greenwich Academy 3-2 followed by a 5-0 win over King. The Wildcats look to keep their winning streak going when Fairchester Athletic Association tournament play begins Monday.
