Rye Y Swim Team Wins Its 8th League Championship, Places High in States
The Rye Y Wave Ryeders took home several trophies.
From the Rye YMCA: The Rye Y Wave Ryeders ended the season as Westchester-Fairfield League Champions (March 3) for the 8th consecutive year. At the New York State YMCA Championships in Ithaca, March 15-17, the Wave Ryeders placed tenth overall and brought home several trophies. Rowan Haffner, age 8, won a first place championship; the 8 and under, and 10 and under boys teams placed second; the 8 and under girls team placed third.
“I am so proud of the Wave Ryeders’ teamwork this year,” said Coach Kate Tiedemann. “They turned the disappointment of losing a dual meet again New Rochelle into a victory at the Leagues and a strong performance at States.”
The goal of the Wave Ryeders program is to promote fun, camaraderie, new friendships, new skills, physical fitness and positive values that extend beyond the swimming environment. The Rye YMCA offers both a Spring and Fall swim team. The Spring swim team tryouts are April 2, 3 and 4 from 6-7 pm with practice running from April 15 to June 6.
