Rye Little League Rangers Advance to Championship

Rye Little League's Rangers Defeat League Foe Mets 10-8.

The Rye Little League Rangers have advanced to the championship game Saturday after defeating the Mets 10-8 Monday.

It was a much different scenario from the two team's previous meeting Thursday, which the Mets won 11-2.

Rangers' Coach Bob Simmons was pleased with Monday's victory and happy that his team will compete for a league title in the Major division.

The Rangers led 10-3  in the bottom of the fifth before the Mets' Tyler Reno hit a three-run home run to cut the lead to 10-8, but the Rangers would hold on for the victory.

Emerson Liebl struckout three Rangers walking one in two innings pitched. The Rangers' Ryan Anderson struckout five batters and walked one.

Joe Zulli pitched three innings, giving up three runs for the Rangers. Matt Shainberg only gave up one hit in relief coming through in the clutch to strike out the last few Met batters in the bottom of the sixth.

The Rangers will play the winner of Tuesday's Braves and Giants game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Grainger Field.

The Mets, whose season is not over yet, will play the loser of Tuesday's  6 p.m. game in a consolation matchup Friday at the same time in the same location.
