RGB Hackers Wallop Dublin Dodgers

Rye Bar and Grill Hackers defeat Dublin Dodgers 18-2.

Twelve runs in the third inning helped the Rye Bar and Grill Hackers defeat the winless Dublin Dodgers, 18-2,  in Men's Softball C League action Thursday.

RGB Hacker Coach Ray Smith credited his team's explosive offensive production for the team's win.

"We had the bats going," he said.

It was enough to dismantle the Dodgers.

"They had a big inning and we just couldn't catch them," said Dublin Dodger first baseman Jim Bentivenga.

"They hit well," he said. "We just couldn't catch up."

The Hackers led 2-0 in the top of the first until the Dodgers tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning.

A Bill Cavaliere single in the top of the second led to the scoring of Sean Halloran, Jeff Woodrow and Ray Harris to break the tie and put the Hackers ahead 5-2.

Te Dodgers would not score again, as the Hackers bats exploded with 12 runs in the third for a 17-2 lead.

Cavaliere then capped the victory for the Hackers with a run of his own for the 18-2 victory.

RGB Hacker pitcher Rob Alleva walked only two batters, giving up seven hits in four and a half innings pitched.

Dublin Dodger Pitcher Doug Moses walked no batters while also recording zero strikeout in four and a half innings pitched.

The game was stopped after five innings of play per the 15 run mercy rule.

Rye Bar and Grill improves to 8-2 on the season for a one game, first place lead in the division, while the Dodgers' record is 0-8.

Dublin looks to improve that record Monday against Rye Ford Second Chance, while Rye Bar and Grill plays M-n-M next Friday in a possible tie-breaker matchup.
