Growing Rye Triathletes' Club Aids Charities

The Rye Tri Club donated $3,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Mac Angels Foundation and the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

RYE, NY, May 31, 2012 – The Rye Tri Club, newly formed as a 501(c)3 organization, combines a zeal for triathlon with a belief in fueling charitable donations to three key charities: Challenged Athletes Foundation, MAC Angels Foundation and Leukemia Lymphoma Society. To this end, each organization was awarded $3,000 over this past weekend.

The mission statement of each organization is as follows:

  • The Challenged Athletes Foundation gives physically challenged persons a chance to lead active lives through exercise and competitive sports. The foundation feels this type of freedom and accomplishment heightens self-esteem, promotes independence and improves quality of life. Because Rye Tri Club members understand the benefit and exhilaration of physical activity, they are eager to help physically limited people achieve the same.
  • Mac Angels Foundation provides compassion, education and resources to patients, families, and caregivers affected by ALS. “Angels” have dealt with the challenges of ALS personally and they use their experience to help others by listening, supporting, and recommending solutions to individual concerns.
  • The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) strives to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving research around the world to combat leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

The Rye Tri Club has experienced steady growth over the past few years with current membership exceeding 285 individuals.  All board and committee members, coaches and mentors volunteer their time to help keep the club running smoothly. Sponsors help the club to achieve its charitable mission.

Members of The Rye Tri Club range from beginners to highly competitive athletes who are passionate about promoting the healthy lifestyle of triathlon.  Some of the group’s most accomplished triathletes serve as mentors, inspiring and encouraging up-and-coming club competitors. The common goal of The Rye Tri Club members is to fund-raise for charities. They have diverse backgrounds including Olympic caliber swimmers who have also led Division 1 swim teams, Category racing cyclists and elite marathon runners who continue to push the boundaries of their respective disciplines.

In addition to their membership and volunteering their time to support the mission of the Rye Tri Club, they are also qualifying for and competing in a variety of races - both triathlon (on track for Kona World Championship qualification) and non-triathlon (Boston marathon and competing in the 28 mile Manhattan island swim race are two examples).
