Rye High School Garnets shoot only 25 percent from the field.

It was a dismal night for the Garnets from outside the key.

His team's game plan was to force big shots and make Port Chester shoot from outside the arc.

"We followed our game plan," DiCintio said. "We just could not hit shots from outside," he said of the Garnets' 25 percent shooting percentage. "That was our problem tonight."

Despite the unfortunate shooting woes, the Garnets held the Rams in the 40 point range thanks to their strong defense.

The Garnet's trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, 13-11. The team would have led if it weren't for a shot at the buzzer.

Rye's Brian Pickup made a two with 1:10 to go in the quarter to trail by one, 10-9. Brendan Nagle then made another two with 27 seconds left putting, the Garnet's up by one before Port Chester netted a three, putting the score at 13-11.

Defense was critical in the second quarter, as the Garnets scored two points and the Rams three for a 22-13 halftime score. Rye's lone point came with 5:37 to go on a pass through the middle of the key between Pickup, Connor Smith, and Tim Lonergan. Lonergan layed it up and cut the the Rams lead to three, 16-13. The play was momentum from a Ram three with 5:38 left.

Being down by nine to start the third quarter, the Garnets brought it to within six points after Pickup flew to the basket for a layup amid defenders with 4:11 left in the period. This was as close as the Garnets would get, as the Rams led 33-24 to start the fourth.

The Rams pulled further ahead in the fourth quarter after the Garnets cut the lead down to eight with 6:58 to go on a free throw by Connor Smith. The Garnets then trailed by as much as 14 after fouls down the stretch.
