Garnets Volleyball Suffers First Home Loss of the Season

Garnets lose to Carmel but show signs of improvement.

The Rye Garnets suffered their first home loss of the season Tuesday to the Carmel Rams, 25-3, 25-10, and 25-19.

Rye High School volleyball coach Jason Friesen said that the Garnets didn't start the game with confidence.

"We started out a little nervous," he said.

But the Garnets gained more confidence as the match progressed.

"We were uncomfortable," Friesen said. "It was difficult and it really showed especially that first game and second game."

Carmel cruised to a 25-3 win in the first game before the Garnets narrowed the gap in the second game, 25-10.

The Garnets were also a different team in the third, staying neck and neck with the Rams until they fell behind 18-17 for the eventual 25-19 final score.

The two teams faced each other in a tournament on Saturday, which helped the Garnets in pre-match preparations.

"We knew they were going to be good," Friesen said of the now 3-0 Rams.

Lauren Creadore led Rye with four kills. Meggie Rix, Nataliya Owens, and Indeia Scarfone each had one. Rix also had six blocks. Kayla Staubi and Teresa Magana each had two.

The Garnets will next host Ossining at home on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
