The Rye Garnets beat the Pelham Pelicans 9-5 Tuesday to advance to the Section One Class C Semi-finals.

"They're a good team and we knew they weren't going to fold," he said.

Pelham started scoring with under nine minutes to go, but Rye's aggressive defense stopped the Pelicans' offensive run with under a minute to play.

Matt McReddie led the Garnets with three goals, two of which came in the first quarter.

Briggs Barton and Jack O'Callaghan each scored two goals. Both also contributed one assist each. Cole McCormack had one goal and three assists. Christian Bonaventura had one goal and two assists, with Max Bonsall also scoring one goal.

Michael Linehan had eleven total saves on goal for the Garnets.

Competition against the Pelicans will help prepare the Garnets for their semi-final away game Thursday against the Bronxville Broncos.

"That was a great defense we played and it will help us continue to win future games," Dooley said.
