Rye Arts Center Presents Port Chester Schools with $10K Arts Award

The Wallace Fox Foundation provided the grant to help fund after-school programs.

Port Chester children will soon have an opportunity to experience the arts in a new way after-school, thanks to a $10,000 award provided by the Wallace Fox Foundation. The Rye Arts Center presented Port Chester school district officials with a $10,000 award recently.

The grant will provide “literacy through the arts” focused programming tailored to the needs of the four elementary schools in Port Chester, RAC Executive Director Helen Gates said.

“For example, the JFK School has asked the Rye Arts Center to help develop a program that will result in an art project  for their garden,” Gates said.

“At the Edison School, the arts center may run a digital journalism class designed to encourage reading, writing and art in a digital format. The RAC may also provide music or drama workshops. Because the RAC is multi-arts, we can tailor our after-school programs to the needs of the specific school.”
