[PHOTOS] Rye Country Day Book Fair Raises Money for Parents Auxiliary

A 2 day spring book fair at Rye Country Day School raised money for the parents' auxiliary and their projects.

Tables of books fill the Rye Country Day Athletic Center. Selections of children's titles, cookbooks, award-winning titles stacked on tables and around the perimeter of the space vendors with beautiful jewelry, apparel and handmade accessories. Kids mill about checking out book titles and sit with friends enjoying hot dogs and snacks.

"This is our small event," said Nan Leby. The Rye Country Day Book Fair takes place twice a year and Leby says this spring event is the smaller of the two. Tuesday was the last day of what she said was a project with a lot of school history. "It's a cherished tradition."

And apparently a successful one. Parent Ray McGhee and his son, first grader Michael McGhee checked out a stand of children's titles.

"He gets excited," said Ray about his son. "He likes to window-shop." But it certainly looked like Michael had done more than window shop. His dad toted a bag of finds.

The spring book fair was co-chaired by Rye Country Day School parents Linda Tyler, Candie Babiarz and Nan Leby. They were humble about their efforts.

"It takes a host of women to bring this together," said Linda Tyler.

Some of the more unique items included jewelry from Pam Older Designs and MIJA Jewelry and handcrafted needlepoint accessories from Maryland-based Smathers and Branson.
