Peter Raider Runs for Blind Brook School Board

This week Patch talks to the candidates for the Blind Brook School District Board of Education. Today, we talk to Peter Raider.

Peter Raider's motivations for seeking a seat on the Blind Brook Board of Education were straightforward.

"I took a look at what I feel is important to this community and made the decision," said Raider. "The simple fact is people move to Rye Brook for the school district. I will work diligently to preserve the quality of our schools while being fiscally responsible."

The Coldwell-Banker real estate broker has lived in Rye Brook since 1979, except for 3 years. Two of his children have graduated from Blind Brook, a daughter in 2008 and a son in 2010. His stepson is currently enrolled as a high school junior.

Currently president of the BelleFair Home Owners Association, Raider has also served on the Village of Rye Brook Traffic Commission.

Raider takes a great deal of pride in his school involvement. "I have been a past class parent at Ridge Street School, I might have been the first father to do this," he said.

Also Raider said he chaired the PTA civic affairs committee for several years; helped the bond steering committee when the 2 most recent capital projects in the district were proposed and passed; and helped solicit for donations for the new playground built at Ridge Street School.

Candidate Raider says the 4 most important issues facing the Blind Brook School District are: a new teachers' contract that will benefit the community and be fair to all; maintaining the quality and integrity of our schools and adding to the same; working with the entire community and all constituencies toward a common goal and not being divisive; and fiscal responsibility.

Raider challenges his opponents to take the high road by running positive, frugal campaigns. He writes:

"I will not engage in negative campaigning and challenge the rest of the candidates to do the same. There is no place in our community for this. Second I will not run a high finance campaign, this would be hypocritical to my belief and why I want to run."

Raider has worked as a Little League coach for the Rye Brook Recreation Department for more then 6 years.
